It started at 2pm Friday and ended on Monday night..
After work on Friday me, dear hubby and kids just hung out on the deck till sunset, then later in the night after putting the kids to bed we watched two movies in a row (how adventurous!).. Valkyrie and The Reader
Strangely both of the stories were related to the Holocaust, I had no idea when I picked them up from Blockbuster...as a result I kept having nightmares all night about Nazis and concentration camps.
Saturday morning we did BBQ with some family and friends at the house. It was a lot of fun, the kids had a great time too. Ahad ate salsa for the first time, he is such a picky eater then it is always a big deal if he tries a new thing.
We then decided to go to Manhattan and hang out in Time Square. Sometime when I am telling my colleagues about such unusual expeditions, they look at me as if some of my brain cells recently dead. Maybe they did who knows. Anyway me with two small kids (who have no business in Time Square in the first place) and a bunch of family members and friends, off we were to the famous intersection. If you have never been to the square my only advice is wear your helmet, knee/elbow pads and any safety gear you can think of, because walking in Time Square on a weekend night is like fighting for your life. People have no mercy and don't even get me started on the cab drivers.
Sunday morning we decided to go out for brunch with the same family members and friends (as they stayed overnight). Oh the food was delicious, plenty and absolutely unhealthy. But who cares it was the long weekend and we were allowed to stuff our selves with oil dripping puris (tortillas like thingys), halwa (made with flour, sugar and oil), baked goat leg, fried chicken , rich rice pudding and 30 more similar dishes. It took a lot of effort for us to stand up again and walk back to our cars but we had no choice. Yet the day was not over, we had already planned a picnic with another friend and after a pause in the house for 20 mins, we left the house again for a picnic in Central Park. Doesn't matter how much excited we were to stroll around the park for the first time in 12 years, our bodies couldn't believe the agony we were putting them through. Ahad refused to walk and sat in Zain's stroller (we don't have one for Ahad as he never sits in it) This meant I had to carry the baby around .. and as much as I love him..this was not fun. We got home around 8pm, didn't have the energy to warm the left overs from previous day BBQ, I gave both the kids bath and then with sore bodies went to bed.
Any reasonable thinking people will not plan anymore adventures for the last day of the long weekend after the above craziness.. ha ha you would think... but we did. We decided to visit Lilly Baji where all of Manzar's family was staying. The kids (if any them could talk) would have given us a piece of their mind after listening to our plan but of course they couldn't. All they could do was give me a hell of time during the visit. I was so exhausted by the end of the day (have I said that enough times?) that we were all absolutely mute on our way back home. (very rare happening)
We hit the limits of physical exhaustion and of course the day had to end with lot of bickering.
All in all it was a good weekend :)
