I don’t have a primary doctor, which is imprudent and arrogant. Imprudent because when I will need to see a general physician I would have to fill out tons of paper work for their patient record first. Arrogant because how dare I think I don’t need one.
Anyway I got sick last week with sore throat and high fever and I needed to see a doctor. So I go to a walk-in clinic near our house. After all the paper work I was brought in the examination room. I realized I am seeing a random doctor and that’s a risk I had to take because of laziness. The doctor enters the room and the first thing I notice is that “He” is a Desi (from south Asian origin). I don’t have anything against Desi doctors and I don’t have anything against male doctors. In fact a lot of my doctors are male. I just have a tiny issue with Desi men and their professionalism (or lack of it)
Here is what I mean, Please keep in mind that I had102F fever and was shivering at this time
Dr: Hello Hurreeya
Me: Hello
Dr: So what is going on with you today?
Me: My throat hurts and I have fever since last three days
Dr: Any cough?
Me: Yes
Dr: Mucus?
Me: No
Dr: Runny Nose?
Me: No
Dr: Are you from India?
Me: (a bit flabbergasted) umm no .. Pakistan
Dr: Ohh ok… I have an uncle in Pakistan ..I am from India..Karela
Me: uhum
Dr: He stayed back at the time of separation… big business in Karachi
Me: (seriously I don’t care)
Dr: When did you have your last physical?
Me: umm.. actually I just had a baby
Dr: Good that covered it all..
Dr comes closer and speaks a little louder than a whisper
Dr: Are you a Muslim?
Me: (What the HECK?) umm yes
Dr: Do you know Muslim believes in Jesus too..actually I am a Christian..I found out that In Quran Jesus is mentioned as a prophet .. that’s the difference actually we believe that he is the son of the God and you believe he is a prophet.. but Quran also says that he will come back..amazing right?
I just mumbled something incoherent and continued to shiver
